Lois was born in 1934 at the Sutphin family’s Old Home Place (pictured on the cover). Tucked amid the folds of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the small community of Laurel Fork, Virginia, was Lois’s home for 48 years. She now resides in Robbins, North Carolina, where her mountain recipes still grace the dinnertable. This book is dedicated to Nellie Mae Sutphin, Lois’s mother and the MeMa from which most of these recipes originated. Gina Farago is Lois’s youngest daughter and a novelist. She lives with her husband, Karl, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and has recently learned to cook, thanks to the work involved in compiling this book.
